THE Severn Valley Railway’s share issue for the upgrade of Bridgnorth station has clearly captured the public imagination – with nearly £500,000 in shares subscribed within five weeks as we closed for press.
SVR officials are jubilant at the public response to the scheme, designed to elevate the line’s northern terminus into a modern facility designed to suit the demanding needs of 21st-century visitors.
Building contractors appointed to deliver initial groundworks for the development have demonstrated solidarity for the ambitious share offer campaign – by decorating their cabins in GWR colours.

Although the team had no idea why the contractors were asking at foundation stage, they were duly supplied with the references for GWR’s famous Stone
No. 1 and Stone No. 3, more readily known as Light Stone and Dark Stone and an explanation as to the heritage of the colours.
Just days later all became clear as it emerged that Iris had painted its on-site portable cabins in the famous GWR colours to enter into the spirit of the special project!
