TV star Gresley teak on the market

A GNR carriage that starred in the highly-acclaimed Channel 4 series Great Rail Restorations with Peter Snow is being offered for sale through Heritage Railway.

Peter Lund, owner of Gresley BCK No. 4229, said that he is selling the teak coach because the Llangollen Railway where it is based has no operational use for it.

The coach was built at Doncaster in 1912 and is of a type that would have run in the ‘Flying Scotsman’ named train.

Restored No. 4229 as part of the ‘Time Train’ at the Llangollen Railway during the filming of the Channel 4 series. LR

As built it had three first-class compartments, three third class and a guard’s luggage area. There was a separate toilet for each class. All these compartments except the toilets had been removed when Peter acquired the carriage.

The restoration, carried out for the TV programme, replaced the third-class compartments but converted the first class into an open area to allow access for wheelchairs.
