Two hastings DEMU tours planned

Hastings Diesels, which operates St Leonards depot-based DEMU (Diesel-Electric Multiple Unit) No. 1001, has announced it is progressing plans for two day trips in the coming months.

However, the group stressed the tours are currently only outline plans and may unavoidably be subject to change or cancellation.

The first is hoped to operate on Saturday, April 6 to London Charing Cross, then Angerstein Wharf, Grain and back to Charing Cross for the run to Hastings.

On June 16, 2018, ‘Thumper’ unit No 1001 worked the ‘The South Devon Coaster Railtour’ from Hastings to Paignton. The set is seen approaching Kennaway Tunnel on the Dawlish Seawall. Two tours are currently planned for the year ahead. THOMAS MILLS

The second trip is set for Saturday, May 11, when the unit will head to Lowestoft, providing a connection with the trolleybus event due to be held at the East Anglia Transport Museum at Carlton Colville.

More recently, No. 1001 operated its annual private Olympia Express charter to Kensington Olympia on December 22.

The set worked a test run to Tonbridge and return on December 17.
