A NEW company has been formed to overhaul and ultimately operate the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway-based BR Standard 4MT 2-6-0 No. 76077.
Considered for a long time to be one of the ‘lost’ ex-Barry locomotives since it arrived at Toddington in 1987 when the engine was dismantled and some work was done, it had been stored on wagons in a siding at the station for more than three decades.
However, previous owner Chris Hinton has handed the locomotive to the new company, Toddington Standard Locomotive Limited, of which he is a founding director.
The locomotive is considered to be the ‘perfect engine’ for the Cotswolds line. When sister No. 76017 visited from the Mid-Hants Railway two years ago, many commented that such an engine would be ideal and after that visit, the impetus to restore No. 76077 began to gather pace.
