All-new luxury carriage kicks off era for Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway

A new, luxury observation carriage built by the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways for Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway has been delivered to Cumbria.

The new observation carriage arrives at the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. RER

The carriage, which offers panoramic views, was built at Boston Lodge Works to a similar design as the Ff&WHR’s Pullman observation cars, and is set to become a blueprint for a programme to enhance passer comfort on the 15in gauge line.

RER operations manager Martin Cookman, said: “The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways is a leader in the field of steam train engineering, which is why we are so chuffed to be working with them on this project. We are going to use it to decide the size of the new rolling stock replacements.

“It is far taller, longer and wider than any of our current carriages and will need to complete hundreds of hours of safety track testing before the first passengers can get on board.”
