Severn Valley back in steam

STEAM haulage returned to the Severn Valley Railway on Thursday, July 19.

Because of the recent heatwave and dry weather, which saw a number of lineside fires, the railway took the decision to revert to diesel traction.

A statement from the railway said: “Because of the dry weather of late, we have been operating a full diesel service to ensure that we have no fire risk, reducing the pressure on our already stretched local fire brigade.

“Following a detailed review of the situation, we have now decided that steam services will resume on Thursday, July 19, initially using locos No. 7802 Bradley Manor, and 100-year-old No. 2857.”
