Silver Lady to take Peterborough garden show by storm

THE 16mm gauge live steam locomotive which starred in the Channel 4 show The Biggest Little Railway in the World, when it became the first to run over all 72 miles of Scotland’s Great Glen, is to go on display at the National Garden Railway Show in Peterborough on April 7.

Filmed during June 2017 by Love Productions and aired on Channel 4 during January and February, the series of five programmes chronicled the adventures of Dick Strawbridge and an army of volunteers as they built the world’s longest model railway from Fort William to Inverness.

Like Flying Scotsman and Mallard, the little green locomotive, Silver Lady,was built in Doncaster, in this case not at ‘The Plant’ but by Roundhouse Engineering, which is based on an industrial estate off Wheatley Hall Road.

At the show at the Peterborough Arena, presented by the Association of 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers, Silver Lady will be displayed with examples of the track used and an exhibition of behind the scenes photographs, while some of the volunteers who built the line will also be on hand to talk about their experiences.

It is hoped to run radio-controlled Silver Lady on one of the layouts at the show.
