Brian Sharpe reports on the Llangollen Railway gala
BR black on the Cambrian
BR unlined black Manors Nos. 7820 Dinmore Manor and 7822 Foxcote Manor pass Llangollen Goods Junction on April 10. NEVILLE WELLINGS
Cambrian-themed galas are nothing new on the Llangollen Railway but this year’s spring event had an added dimension with most locomotives being not only appropriate but carrying unlined BR black livery evoking memories of the 1950s.
The resident tank engines, GWR 0-6-0PT No. 6430, GWR large Prairie No. 5199 and BR Standard 4MT 2-6-4T No. 80072 were joined by the line’s flagship engine, No.7822 Foxcote Manor, which had just emerged from yet another overhaul and has been turned out in black for the first time in preservation.
