‘Lizzie’ comeback dogged by delays

SINCE its overhaul was completed two months ago, LMS 4-6-2 No. 6201
Princess Elizabeth has experienced several incidents which have impacted on its trains.

Firstly, when running light from Tyseley to Derby as a stand-in engine for Princess Coronation Pacific No. 46233 Duchess of Sutherland, ‘Lizzie’ ran a warm right-hand bogie wheelset, which meant that instead of going to Derby, the Stanier 4-6-2 made for Butterley’s West Shed for examination.

Having been declared fit to run, ‘Lizzie’ eventually made its main line debut working a ‘Cathedrals Express’ from Victoria to Bishops Lydeard on the West Somerset Railway on Tuesday, August 23.

Despite having run in fine fashion, the trip was not without incident, through no fault of the locomotive.
