Bala Lake: town centre extension begins

PLANS to extend the Bala Lake Railway into the heart of the town have begun.

In February, the removal of the very toxic brown asbestos cladding on the disused industrial building on the site of the new station began. Once it was removed, the main demolition of the ‘eyesore’ building started.

Fundraising is progressing with half of the money raised for the purchase of the land from the Bala Rugby Club.

Ongoing consultations with the Welsh Government, Gwynedd Council and Visit Wales continue to be encouraging, said Bala Lake Railway Trust chairman Julian Birley. The sum raised to date has reached almost a quarter of a million pounds.

The railway has launched an incentive scheme that includes places on the first train into town
