NOT only is The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust planning to realise its long-held dream by running A1 Peppercorn Pacific No. 60163 Tornado at 90mph on the main line in 2017, but it is also planning to build a state-of-the-art charter train to regularly run behind it.
The train is to be constructed from locomotive-hauled Mk.3 carriages currently in use in East Anglia, which will be extensively refurbished and overhauled, it was announced at the trust’s annual convention in Darlington on October 1.
Chairman, Mark Allatt, said that the yet-to-be named new train will set new standards in a railtour market long dominated by difficult-to-maintain 60 years or older vehicles.

As with all modern trains, it will be equipped with air conditioning, central door locking, controlled emission toilets, power at seat and facilities for people with restricted mobility.
