COUNTY Donegal’s Cashelnagor station, regarded as the remotest stop on the former Letterkenny & Burtonport Extension Railway, has been restored to its former glory, 71 years after the last train passed through its lonely, single platform in the shadow of Errigal mountain.
Situated 56 miles from Derry, the terminus of the 3ft gauge Londonderry & Lough Swilly Railway, which operated the 1903-built extension on behalf of the Board of Trade, Cashelnagor lies between Falcarragh and Gweedore stations.

Built to a standard design for smaller stations and gate lodges on the line, it became derelict after closure, but found fame in 1992 when movie stars Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland filmed at the cosmetically-restored station when shooting The Railway Station Man.
