Spring debut for Pacific on ‘La’al Ratty’

The official launch of the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway’s Krauss Pacific ‘Train From Spain’ will take place on Saturday, May 5. At the launch, the 1929-built locomotive, No. 8457, will be named Whillan Beck.

The launch will mark the start of a special three-day Welcoming Whillan Beck event running over the bank holiday weekend.

Extra trains will run over the weekend and special appearances will be made by heritage locomotives such as Katie and Synolda – normally resident in the railway’s new award-winning museum.

Whillan Beck will pull an official launch special at 1.10pm on the Saturday, patronised by invited guests including high value donors to the Train From Spain Appeal, followed by its first public train adorned with its new nameplates, later in the afternoon.

On Saturday evening there will be
a barbecue on the platform at Ravenglass and a ‘free to enter’ photographic shoot featuring
various steam locomotives around the station and engine shed yard.
