by

THE Nene Valley Railway is to hold a Southern steam gala over the weekend of March 9-10, featuring Schools 4-4-0 Repton from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

No. 926 will join resident Southern Bulleid Battle of Britain light Pacific No. 34081 92 Squadron and the locomotives will operate double-headed trains.

The most recent visitor to the Nene Valley is Great Central Railway-based LMS ‘Jinty’ No. 47406. The 0-6-0T made a welcome sight on the line for the half-term school holiday period services and is pictured here awaiting departure from Wansford with the 2pm service for Yarwell on October 28. The 3F was due to return to Loughborough on November 12. GARETH EVANS

There will also be the opportunity to ride behind either Southern locomotive in a brakevan on a freight train to Yarwell and return. Tickets are £10 or £5 if in possession of a rover ticket – the minimum age to travel being 16.
