Eardington is lighting the way

I am a volunteer lampman at Eardington station on the Severn Valley Railway, where we have set up a small lamp room dedicated to the repair, restoration and display of railway lamps from the pre-electric era.

We have a modest collection of working hand lamps, signal lamps, loco lamps, platform lamps and related items. The station is lit entirely by oil, as there’s no electricity supply on site.

I wonder if any other preserved railway has anyone working in a similar role?

SVR trains don’t currently stop at Eardington, but here is an image taken at a recent steam gala, when we open the station for photographers and the public.
