Hidden London tours prove to be massive hit

A NEW series of tours of hidden places on London’s railway network has proved so popular that it was selling out within days.

London Transport Museum’s Hidden London tours programme for 2017 features five different locations including the lost tunnels of Euston station, the former London Underground HQ of 55 Broadway, the closed Down Street used by Winston Churchill as a wartime bunker, the Clapham South deep-level shelter and the forgotten station of Highgate.

Within days of going on sale in late November, tickets for the Euston tunnels and Clapham South tours sold out.

The Euston tour features a labyrinth of dark and dusty passageways that were once used by the travelling public, and a gallery of preserved vintage advertising poster fragments that have been concealed for over 50 years.

While the main tour is sold out, there is still limited availability on a cut-down photographic tour version. It will be led by an expert tour guide with additional time structured in for photography, and includes the opportunity to take pictures of the heritage features of the traditional Leslie Green station.

The Highgate station gives visitors the chance to discover a station reclaimed by nature. Redeveloped with Charles Holden architecture in 1941, it now lies in a secluded vale as an urban wilderness home to protected species.
