Your Gallery | Tornado returns to the national network

On January 15, 2019, the A1 Trust’s Pacific 60163 Tornado returned to the national network at Peterborough, after spending over six months undergoing repairs and recertification at Wansford, on the Nene Valley Railway, to enable the locomotive to return to National Railtour duty in 2019.

A small gathering of enthusiasts and well-wishers gathered on normally busy Peterborough’s platform four to await Tornado’s arrival. The engine paused for a few minutes for everyone to have a look and admire 60163.

Then the engine dramatically cleared her cylinder cocks, and moved slowly up to the north end of the platform to await the green signal aspect and feather for her destination, out in the darkness, Doncaster Roberts Road.

An earlier plan to run 60163 up to Thirsk and then to Barrow Hill was cancelled.
