Railway Touring company go ahead with winter cumbrian express

by

Despite the passing of the King’s Lynn-based railtour promoter Nigel Dobbing, his Railway Touring Company is operating as usual. Next year begins with the start of the ‘Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express’ season, albeit the shortened itinerary which starts out of Manchester Victoria.

Departing on Saturday, January 26, the ‘Express’ heads for Carnforth, Shap and Carlisle. The train then returns over the Settle and Carlisle line, with passenger stops at Bolton, Preston and Blackburn.

Subject to confirmation, steam will be provided by two of Ian Riley’s ‘Black Fives’.

On Saturday, February 2, the full ‘Express’ programme begins, the train leaving Euston with Class 86 Les Ross working the usual leg to Carnforth, where steam takes over for the run to Carlisle via Shap.

Boarding stops are given as Watford Junction, Milton Keynes, Northampton (connecting public service), Rugby, Nuneaton and Crewe. Steam is expected to be either 4-6-0 No. 45699 Galatea or No. 45690 Leander, and these trips are repeated on February 23 and March 9.

Worcester is the destination for the ‘Cotswold Venturer’ which starts out of Paddington, on Saturday, February 16.
