The Isle of Wight Steam Railway has enjoyed record passenger figures for the second year running.

In 2010, it carried more than 110,000 passengers, but last year, in excess of 115,500 passengers rode on the trains.

The ‘staycation’ effect is believed to have played a big part.

While holidaymakers are deterred from crossing the Engl;ish Channel because of the poor /exchange rates with the euro, the Solent does not offer the same disadvantage.
