One good turn deserved another

IN ISSUE 155, I was very interested to see the picture of No. 71000 Duke of Gloucester at Wansford, on the turntable from the M&GN at Bourne. It brought back memories of my youth before the war.

As lads we would wait about a quarter of a mile outside Bourne station in the hope that a coal train would be stopped.

If we promised to turn the engine on this same turntable we would be allowed on to the footplate for the ride into Bourne station.

Happy evenings!
